J&M Reproduction
Frequently Asked Qestions
How Should I Prepare My Files?
Pre-press planning and proper file preparation are essential to a successful printing job. J&M Reproduction currently accepts Quark Express, Pagemaker, Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher or any other file saved as a tiff, jpeg or eps. All parts of the file should be sent including all fonts, pictures and eps.

How Should I Scan My Pictures?
Photographs and transparencies should be scanned at the final printed size (and in position if sending the entire page) at 300 to 350 dpi (dots per inch). DO NOT INTERPOLATE OR RE-IMAGE a low-resolution scan to 350, it will not work.
Photographs and transparencies should be viewed and color corrected using Adobe Photoshop. The highlight areas (white of the picture) should be about 2% yellow, 2% magenta, 3% cyan, and 0% black. If the picture has a spectacular highlight (like the reflection on the bumper of a car) then there should be 0% in a colors.
Under color removal should be set to 330% (This is accomplished in Adobe Photoshop).
Line art (logos, type, line art drawings) should be scanned at 1200 dpi. This is because resolution has a greater effect on line art. Resolution has a greater effect on line art due to the fact that there are no shades of color to create a smoothing or a blending effect between pixels.

What File Format Should I Use?
J&M prefers scanned images as tiff files and they should NOT be RGB, switch to CMYK or Spot Color. We will accept EPS or jpeg files.

How Can I Create Gradation and Solid Backgrounds Without a Banding Effect?
Make sure you are using Adobe Photoshop to create gradation. Select enough shades of color to fill the desired area. Then apply one pixel of gaussian noise to eliminate the banding. You will find the gaussian noise under the drop down.
What Should I Send To J&M Reproduction?
When sending files to J&M, please remember to include:
All printer and screen fonts used in the document
A printout of the file you have created (a color print out is preferred)
If you have created hi-res scans, make sure to send them (if they fit a floppy disk, you have done something wrong,)
A complete order form or a purchase order
Fill out a credit application and the credit card form and number or a check.
Can I Get My Product Faster?
While our normal delivery provides quick turn around, we offer turn around times as short as same day on reproduction and three to four days on some printed products.
Can I Get a Proof By Email?
While we prefer you see a normal proof for the product being provided, e-mail proofs and fax proofs are necessary when timing is critical. When proofing by e-mail, remember that this proof is not critical for color. It is used for color breaks and position.
